Midwifery Services

My goal is to accompany you in partnership, providing personalized care, loving support and information.  I encourage your active participation in you and your baby’s care, empowering you to make informed choices and to experience birth in the way that is right for you. I offer home birth only, comprehensive prenatal care, 37 week home visit, nutritional counseling, breastfeeding assistance, extensive postpartum care and laboratory tests.  Throughout our entire client relationship, I am available to you in person, via email, text, EHR messaging and by phone 24 hours a day, there is no filtering through a nurse or answering service to get an answer to your questions.  I am on call for your birth from 37 weeks on. I work with a choice of assistants, that you also get to know (unlike a rotating nurse), they are trained in Neonatal Resuscitation and Healthcare CPR.  They also regularly engage in emergency skills training. The are amazing Doulas that have trained for a year to work in a Midwife's Assistant Role, that includes an apprenticeship and continued education.  I purposely keep a low volume practice of 15-20 clients a year, so I am always looking forward to the next birth.

Prenatal Care

Prenatal visits are usually 60 minutes long and occur every three-four weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, every two weeks until 36 weeks of pregnancy, and then weekly until the baby arrives.  During prenatal visits, in addition to monitoring the health and well being of mom and baby, we spend a great deal of time getting to know each other, developing a trusting relationship, talking about the transitions you are experiencing, answering questions and assisting you in making informed choices and identifying community resources. This averages 11-13 one hour long visits if care is begun at 12-14 weeks. We discuss nutrition , supplements, birth plans and  informed choices along the way.

Labor & Birth

Every birth is different, and so I do not have a routine way of working.  Your care is personalized to you and your situation.   An assistant of your choosing will also attend your birth.  Once your baby is born, we will stay with you until you are both stable and ready for quiet time, usually 3-4 hours after the birth, or longer if indicated. Birth Pool is provided with no charge (You buy the things thrown away such as the liner & hose in your birth kit). Your birth space is left clean and picked up.

Postpartum Care

We will visit you 2 times during the first week after the birth, and then see you and baby again either at home or in my office at two weeks, then

once again for a final postpartum visit six weeks after the birth.  There is an optional but encouraged 4 week visit.  Postpartum visits are extensive and include breastfeeding support and newborn care.  Additional visits can be scheduled as needed or requested, there is no extra charge for this. Pulse Ox screen for CCHD (Critical Congenital Heart Disease), Hearing screen and Metabolic screen are done at no charge.

Testing

I can help you order any testing you may want, including routine laboratory tests, prenatal genetic screening and diagnosis, ultrasounds, Bio-physical profile if needed and metabolic screen, hearing screen and pulse ox screen tests for the newborn.

Fees & Insurance

My fee is paid in advance of your baby's birth, with a deposit due at booking and the balance due by 36 weeks. I do ask that even if you are looking for insurance reimbursement that your fee is paid by 36 weeks in order to keep costs down for my self pay clients.  I do take insurance and have an insurance biller, if you would like to verify your benefits and work on getting an in network exception.  Click button below to contact Napier Midwifery Billing to verify insurance benefits. Christian Sharing plans such as Christian Health Ministries and other Medishare do cover midwifery care as do most Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
